Abstract

955,202. Cable Joints and terminations. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. March 27, 1963 [March 28, 1962], No. 11948/62. Heading H2E. In a stop-joint or termination for an oilfilled cable, the stress cone (or cones) is prefabricated and has a bore which increases in diameter at the head end. The cable conductors 1 and 2 fit into ferrules 6 and 7 fitted into a slotted sleeve 3, 4 having a central oil barrier 5 which extends into a flange 8 by which the sleeve is attached to an inner tubular screen 9, 10. The inner screen 9, 10 is attached by rings 12, 13 to an outer screen 11, the whole assembly being embedded in a body 14 made by vacuum casting an epoxy resin with a silica filler. The ends of the body 14 are slightly tapered and carry projecting metal sleeves 15, 16, the remainder of the body being sprayed with a metal coating, this screen being continued through a flange 17 by a metal layer 21. This layer may be gapped for use in a cross-bonded system. The flange 17 carries an outer twopart metal sheath 39, 40 plumbed to the cable sheath. The stress cones 23, 24, made of epoxy resin as body 14 have a curved, tapering neck carrying a metal sleeve 30 at one end and merging into a portion of the shape shown at the other. The sleeve 30 is bonded to the sleeve 15. Specification 893,376 is referred to.
