Abstract

Ethyl acrylate or butyl acrylate is polymerized in the presence of disodium N-"tallow"-b -iminodipropionate as dispersing agent by adding the monomer from which polymerization inhibitor has been removed by alkali to an aqueous solution of gelatin and the dispersing agent, heating and adding hydrogen peroxide catalyst. The initial exothermic reaction is moderated with ice or cold water, and more monomer is then added followed by more catalyst. Specifications 580,504, 592,676, 718,422 and 786,176 are referred to.
