Abstract
954,686. Reels. J. HILL. Oct. 5, 1962 [July 8, 1961], No. 24799/61. Heading B8M. A drum or reel for electric cable or wire rope comprises at each side or end an axially displaceable trunnion which, in an outwardly extended position, may be used as either a trunnion or a bearing journal in the rotation of the drum &c. for winding or unwinding of cable &c. thereof. As shown in Fig. 1, one end 15 of a torsion bar 16 constituted by a central solid spindle (not shown) is housed in a trunnion 17 which (with its head 18) may be displaced externally of a flange 14 to a position reached when a headed pin or bolt 19 abuts the inner end of a fixed hub 13 (from which spokes 12 radiate). In another construction, Fig. 3, a central shaft 20 is hollow to receive a hub 21 within which slides a solid trunnion 22, shown in its extended position as determined by a stop 24.
