954,652. Overhead - travelling cranes. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Nov. 28' 1960 [Nov. 30, 1959], No. 40551/59. Heading B8B. Changes in the angular relationship between a crane bridge 11, Fig. 1, and a track 10 are sensed and the relationship restored by rollers 40, 42a, Fig. 3 which are held on the side of one track 10 by a spring 43 and mounted on horizontal levers 39, 42 pivoted to the frame 11 and connected together by links 38, 41, angular movement of the lever 38 controlling the speed of the two driving motors of the crane bridge. The crane is constructed as described in Specification 954,653, the proportioning valves referred to therein for the two crane bridge drive motors 13 being controlled by the lever 38 through links 44, 45, 46, 48, 49, 51, 52 and the piston and cylinder 50. The lever 52 is the actuating rod for the proportioning valves and opposite ends of the cylinder 50 are connected to the reversing and throttling valve which controls the motors 13. The arrangement is such that when the reversing valve is set to move the crab in one direction the pin on the lever 48 occupies one end of the slot 46 whilst when it is set to move the crab in the reverse direction the piston-rod 49 is moved to cause the pin to occupy the other end of the slot 46. Moreover, a given angular movement of the lever 45 in one direction will result in a certain angular movement of the lever 51 in one direction when the piston-rod 49 is in one position, but an equal but opposite angular movement of the lever 51 if the piston-rod is in the alternative position. Thus control of the proportioning valves is independent of the direction of travel of the crab.
