Abstract

736,613. Fluid-pressure servomotor - control systems. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 1, 1954 [Jan. 7, 1953], No. 490/63. Class 135. In a liquid servomotor, e.g. for operating a speed controller shaft 26 of an A.C. mine winder motor, in which the control member 16, the control valve 12 and the piston 10 are linked, e.g. by the floating lever 13, for follow-up movement, a change-over valve 29 allows the servomotor to exhaust through two alternative ducts in at least one of which, and both as shown, there is a normally open valve 30, 31 and a restricted valve by-pass 32, 33, and means automatically closing the normally open valve at a predetermined position of the piston. Under motoring conditions, on shifting the control valve to the right, liquid from the pump 18 via pipe 20, 21 moves the piston to the left quickly at first, the exhaust passing via pipe 22, 23 and open valve 31. As the piston rotates the shaft 26 clockwise, an adjustable cam 41 closes the valve 31 and the piston moves slowly to re-centre the valve 12. On moving the member 16 to neutral position, the valve 12 is shifted to the left, and the piston moves quickly to the right because the exhaust is through the open pipe 42 Under dynamic braking conditions, a solenoid 34 shifts valve 29 so that exhaust is past valves 30 and 32, and the valve 30 is closed by the independently adjustable cam 37 as the piston moves to the left. A solenoid 38 may be energized in response to excessive braking torque to close the valve 30.
