A needle for a flat warp knitting machine is formed from a hollow tube in which the end is swaged to form a hook portion the dimensions of which are such that the area expressed in square inches enclosed by the hook and a line passing at right angles to the shank 1 through the tip of the hook compared with the average diameter expressed in inches, of the swaged pin from which the hook is formed lies between 0.145 and 0. 220 when expressed as a ratio and the length of the area parallel to the needle shank is at least twice the width of the area. A hollow tongue 5 slides in the shank and by passing through the cutaway portion 4 of the shank can be made to cover the tip of the needle. Specifications 490,755 and 516,025 are referred to.
