A trough-shaped tank 1 for machines for the surface - treatment or coating of workpieces, more particularly massproduced components, which tank is subject to the action of a vibrator and has an inlet at the top and a closable outlet at at least one end, is characterized in that the closure device is in the form of a cover 2 whose edge in the closed position is in sealing - tight engagement with the edge of the tank outlet aperture and which is spaced from an inner plate 5 forming together with the outlet aperture an annular slot 15 by means of which the tank interior is in communication with the antechamber 16 formed between the sealing outer part 6 of the cover and the plate 5. The cover may be secured to the tank by flange connection with wing-type clamping screws, a closure pivoting around a hinge with corresponding interlocking, or, as shown, a bayonet closure and clamping screws 4. The cover is sealed to the tank by a ring gasket 7, and includes a drain tap 17.
