Abstract

822,391. Containers and closures therefor. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. May 21, 1957 [May 21, 1956], No. 16141/57. Classes 66 and 125(3). A drum comprises a fibre side wall 6 with beaded edge 10 having a metal chime 7 and a thin non-corrodible metal shield 12 covering parts of the chime liable to corrosion by the contents of the drum. A drum cover 18 has a gasket 17 and clamping band 19 provided with a hand lever, Fig. 1 (not shown). A sealing substance may be used between the shield 12 and the drum wall 6, and the latter may have a liner, Fig. 4 (not shown), extending up between the curled end of the chime and shield and the beaded edge 10 of the side wall 6 of the drum.
