954,206. Photographic image for spirit printing. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN N.V. Oct. 10, 1960 [Oct. 8, 1959], No. 34617/60. Addition to 804, 076. Heading G2M. A silver halide emulsion containing a finely divided water-insoluble lenco base of a triphenylmethane dyestuff is exposed as by reflex procedure, given a tanning development and washed, if desired in the manner of Specification 954,205 using a development accelorator and a gelatin softener, to remove unhardened parts of the emulsion and form a relief mirror image which is treated with an acidic oxidising agent to convert the colour component into a dye and with a precipitant to make the dye water-insoluble, after which the matrix so made is brought into contact with a print paper in the presence of a lower alcohol, and some tens of copies may be so made in the manner of spirit printing. Use of an acid liquid in spirit printing itself as in the method of the parent Specification is thereby avoided. Leuco malachite green or crystal violet is used as colour component in nine examples, the oxidising agent is usually potassium permanganate or a dichromate, and the precipitants include trichloracetic acid, silicotungstic acid, sodium phosphomolybdate with tartaric acid, sodium phosphotungstate with acetic acid, cerium sulphate with sulphonic acid and ammonium molybdate with acetic acid.
