Abstract
879,049. Photographic colour-proofing procedure. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1960 [March 3, 1959], No. 5144/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2) Positive working colour-proofing film comprises a base, a first layer as of hardened gelatine m.p. above 40‹C. containing dispersed oxidizing agent, and a second layer thereon as of unhardened gelatine m.p. 28‹C. comprising silver halide emulsion containing dispersed oil-soluble water-diffusible colour coupler. Procedure therewith is exposure as under a positive, colour development whereby coupler corresponding to the image areas migrates down to the first layer and couples with developer therein which is conditioned by the oxidizing agent, to form a dye image corresponding more closely to printing inks than that made from diazo proofing materials; and finally melting and rubbing the first layer away to reveal the image. In Example I a formaldehyde hardened silver bromide emulsion is coated on to a cellulose acetate film and prefogged; a solution of 1-phenyl-3-[p-tertiaryamylphenoxy)-butyrylaminol-5-pyrazolone in phenethyl alcohol is blended into a brom-iodide emulsion of low melting point and overcoated to form the second layer, and the film so made is exposed, colour developed, washed, bleached, fixed, and treated as above to remove this layer and show a magenta image, the fogged silver halide having acted as oxidizing agent. Example II is similar but uses o-chloroacetoacetanilide as coupler and cupric sulphate for oxidizing, with omission of fogging, bleaching and fixing, to produce a yellow dye image. Lists of other couplers including some for cyan, solvents therefor, oxidizing agents, colour developing agents, colloids to replace the gelatin, supports and so on are provided. The processed films may be used singly, or in overlays as for projection, display, charts or graphs; as well as colour comparison in lithographic or rotogravure proofing.
