Abstract

1395329 Producing colloid relief images using N-vinyl carbazole and carbon tetrabromide AGFAGEVAERT 16 Aug 1972 [8 Sept 1971] 41941/71 Heading G2C A colloid relief image is produced using a photographic material comprising a layer of an intimate mixture of N-vinyl carbazole and carbon tetrabromide dispersed as discrete particles in a watersoluble, film-forming hydrophilic colloid having active hydrogen atoms, the relief image (A) when having reversed image values with respect to an original being produced by a negative working mode comprising imagewise exposing the material to ultraviolet, visible and/or infrared radiation of an amount not sufficient to form a print-out image, overall exposing to ultraviolet or visible and/or infrared radiation in a larger amount than the initial exposure to form a visible image corresponding to the initially unexposed areas, overall heating to intensify the colour in the initially unexposed areas and to decrease the water permeability and washoff removability in the initially exposed areas and washing off the initially unexposed areas with an aqueous liquid and (B) when having the same image values as an original being produced by a positive working mode comprising imagewise exposing the material to ultraviolet, visible and/or infrared radiation to produce a visible print-out colour image, overall heating to intensify the printout colour image arid to reduce the water permeability and wash-off removability of the initially unexposed areas, overall exposing to ultraviolet radiation to colour the initially unexposed areas and washing off the initially exposed areas with an aqueous liquid. In procedure (A) the material may be overall exposed to ultraviolet radiation to colour the initially exposed areas immediately before the wash-off step. Alternatively, the material may contain a dye or coloured pigment in the photosensitive layer. The photo-sensitive layer may be spectrally sensitized with a dye base such as a styryl or azastyryl dye base e.g. 2- or 4- (pdimethylaminostyryl) quinoline. Specification 1065548 is referred to.
