Abstract

Alkali metal pertitanates and perzirconates are produced by hydrolysing the tetravalent salts of titanium and zirconium in alkali solution at a temperature less than 10 DEG C., separating the solid and adding hydrogen peroxide containing 1-5% of sodium pyrophosphate the addition product obtained is then converted to the pertitanate or perzirconate by dissolving in alkali solution. The salts preferably used are the tetrafluorides, chlorides and sulphates, and preferably saturated solutions thereof. The products may be used in alloy coating baths.
