Abstract

A milled and plodded detergent bar comprises, by weight (a) 20-80% C10-18-fatty acid soap, suitably a sodium soap; (b) 10-70% non-cationic synthetic detergent, e.g. sodium N-tallow acyl-N-methyl tauride or hydrogenated coco-acyl monoglyceride monosulphate; (c) starch or modified starch in amount to provide 1-10% amylofectin; and (d) 0.05-0.5%, preferably 0.1-0.15%, of an inorganic bisulphite, e.g. the potassium, magnesium or (preferably) sodium salts. Deodorant (e.g. 3 : 5-dichlorsalicyl-31 : 41-dichloroanilide), perfume (e.g. amyl salicylate, lavendin, bois de rose), antioxidant (cresol derivative), pigment (titanium dioxide), dye, and sodium chloride and sulphate may also be present. The bars are made in the conventional way, and small amounts of alcohol may be included to prevent the starch from gelling prematurely.
