[Also in Division E2] A device for holding a stiffening member in contact with a plate during tack-welding comprises two sucker pads 3 joined by a frame consisting of side members 2 and a bridge piece 1 upon which is mounted between the sucker pads a jack 4, 5. There is a vacuum line 7 with control valve 8 for the sucker pads and a fluid pressure line 9 for the jack. The device as shown is intended for use on vertical or overhead surfaces. Another embodiment intended for use on horizontal surfaces and comprising a transportable wheeled frame carrying sucker pads, jack, vacuum and fluid pressure pumps and their driving motor, is described with reference to Figs. 2, 3 and 4 (not shown).
