Abstract

926,846. Road vehicle undercarriages. PRIMROSE THIRD AXLE CO. Ltd. May 13, 1960 [May 13, 1959; Nov. 13, 1959], Nos. 16352/59 and 38495/59. Class 108(2). In a hydraulic suspension for a vehicle, each axle 1, 2 is mounted on a leaf spring 5, 6 at each side of the vehicle and one end of each spring is carried at a fixed point 7, 8 on the vehicle chassis while the other end is carried freely by the movable element 15 of a double-acting hydraulic suspension means 17, the latter being interconnected so that a downward (or upward) thrust on one axle results in a substantially equal but opposite thrust on the other. To prevent slight deviations of one axle causing a flow of liquid an expansion chamber 33 containing a spring-loaded piston 39 may be provided, the piston being fully depressed or engaging a stop 42 when the vehicle is fully laden so that it has no effect on the flow of liquid. The ports connected to the conduit 38 may be at a higher level on the means 17 so that the conduits may be connected to the chassis by common clips. The means 17 may consist of diaphragm chambers instead of rams.
