953,643. Cupping. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORPORATION. Feb. 12, 1963, No. 5709/63. Heading B3Q. A method of drawing a thin-walled tubular workpiece comprises axially aligning the workpiece successively with each of two axially aligned and spaced dies, passing the workpiece between one die and the next while maintaining the said alignment and without exerting drawing pressure on the wall of the workpioce, the workpiece not being engaged with more than one die at any one time. An apparatus for per forming the method comprises a cupping die 8 and drawing dies 5 and 6. The dies are mounted in holders 30 and aligned by rods 32. Each die has a guide portion 1a immediately following the working section which is slightly larger than the working section so that the workpiece, which is supported by a punch P, is maintained in axial alignment with the succeeding die. The spacing between the dies is such that the trailing end of the workpiece leaves one die before its leading end engages the next die.
