Abstract
1352910 Straightening R GALDABINI 2 Sept 1971 [6 Nov 1970] 40917/71 Addition to 1185927 Heading B3E [Also in Divisions G1 and G3] The method of straightening an elongated workpiece as described in Specification 1,185,927 is modified in that succeeding bending strokes of the ram are increased by preselected amounts rather than as a function of the residual error between the actual and desired final shape of the workpiece. After imparting a first bending stroke S 1 to the bar as in Specification 1,185,927, bending strokes S 2 , S 3 , each exceeding the preceding stroke by an increment a, are applied to the bar until the error E between the actual and desired final shape falls below a first preselected value E A . Subsequently, bending strokes S 4 -S 6 are applied to the bar until the measured error E is below a second preselected value E B , the strokes S 4 -S 6 increasing progressively by an increment b which is less than the increment a. The increments a and b in the two bending stages need not be constant and more than two stages may be provided. The apparatus for carrying out the method is similar to that described in the parent Specification.
