1,061,224. Drawing; swaging. M. VON BUSHE, and T. ALTENBRACHT, [trading as TH. KIESERLING & ALBRECHT]. Aug. 6, 1964 [Aug. 17, 1963; Nov. 21, 1963], No. 32070/64. Headings B3H, B3P and B3Q. A method of forming on the end of a tube a pleated tang (8, Figs. 3, 3a) to be clamped to a drawing carriage during drawing operations on the tube, comprises nipping the tube-end and feeding it forward in a tool to form the tang (8) and a transitional taper (7), pleats (6a) formed in the tang meeting on the tube-axis. The tool comprises four dies (1a-1d, Figs. 4, 4a) for use in a known power-operated hammer (Fig. 5). Each die has a semi-conical rib (4a) and a similar extension rib (4b) leading to a parallel zone (3). The tang is pressed in stages (Figs. 1 and 2).
