A shot-gun or sporting cartridge comprises a case of polyethylene or copolymers of ethylene with other α-olefines having a density in the range 0.94 to 0.965 and a melt index in the range 0.1 to 5.0 and a charge of shot having a Brinell hardness in the range 3-7. A preferred form of case is that as described in Specification 926,196 and having a plastics overshot wad held in position by a 90 degrees turn-over of the case wall. Suitable shot may be prepared from pure lead with the addition of antimony disulphide or arsenical compounds as hardness-modifying agents.
