952,873. Refrigerating. YORK SHIPLEY Ltd. (York Division, Borg Warner Corporation). May 16, 1960, No. 17228/60. Heading F4H. In a reversible compression refrigerating system having indoor and outdoor heatexchangers 15 and 14, a single automatically controlled valve 17 brings about either series or parallel working of the compressors 10, 12. Series working is instituted by a low outdoor temperature acting on thermostatic bulb 22 to reduce the pressure in bellows 18 and move valve 17 into the position shown. Valve 16 conducts the high pressure gaseous refrigerant to heatexchanger 15 acting as a condenser, but it can be independently adjusted to interchange the evaporator/condenser functions of the heat exchangers 14 and 15. The liquid refrigerant passes through capillary 29 and is evaporated at reduced pressure in heat-exchanger 14 before it is returned to the compressors 10 and 12. In the bellows expanded position of valve 17 (Fig. 1, not shown), part of the low pressure gaseous refrigerant by-passes compressor 10 by going directly from pipe 33 to pipe 30 and the output from compressor 10 by-passes compressor 12 and enters pipe 32.
