[Also in Division F2] The carrier lever 18<SP>4</SP>, Fig. 12, of a chain-shift change-speed gear (see Division F2) is pivoted on the frame 34 of a bicycle by a pivot joint having means for taking-up play at the bearing surfaces, a pin 33 bolted to the frame being enclosed within a casing 32 secured to the carrier lever and tightening a cone-headed screw 36<SP>1</SP> in a tapped hole expanding the radially slotted end of the pin to reduce its play relatively to the adjacent surface 32<SP>1</SP> of the casing. A helical coil spring 35 surrounding the pin engages at one end a slot in the casing 32 and at the other end a diametral hole 33<SP>3</SP> in the pin. In a modified construction, a pivot pin 37, Fig. 15, bolted to the frame, is surrounded by a casing 39 secured to the carrier lever, a frustoconically shaped disc 37<SP>1</SP> integral with the pin engaging a correspondingly shaped bearing surface at one end of the casing when an internally-threaded ring 38 is screwed along the end of the pin to engage an external frustoconical peripheral surface thereon with a correspondingly-shaped bearing surface 39 at the other end of the casing. Tightening a coneheaded screw 36<SP>1</SP> expands the radially slotted end of the pin 37 to take-up play between the bearing surfaces of the ring and casing.
