952,726. Damping yarns. H. KRANTZ, and W. KRANTZ, [trading as H.KRANTZ] . Dec.3, 1962 [Dec. 23, 1961], No.45662/62. Heading DIL. A method of redamping skeined yarn to bring its moisture content to a standard value comprises placing the skeins 2 inside a centrifuge drum 3 and spraying liquid onto the rotating skeins, the centrifuging process being continued for a short time after the liquid has been sprayed on. The skeins are then packed in oiled paper or plastic bags for transportation or storage. In the form shown the skeins are hung on rods 4 extending radially of the drum 1 and are sprayed from three elongate nozzles which are of such size, so spaced and so directed that fan shaped sprays are produced which contact the skein over a vertical line without overlapping. Alternatively a single nozzle is used and vertically traversed. The precise quantity of liquid required to treat a batch of skeins is passed by a pump 9 into a transparent, calibrated vessel 8 which is provided with valves 11,15, 16 and a supply pipe 10 for compressed air. which generates the pressure necessary for spraying. A series of time switches may be provided to operate the pump 9, the valves and the cover 6 of the centrifuge so that the process may be operated in a semi-automatic manner.
