952,314. Welding by fusion. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Jan. 31, 1963 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 3959/63. Heading B3R. In forming a welded joint between a wall 2 and an elongated member 4, e.g., a tube or stay, passing through and inclined to the wall 2, the member 4 is formed with a protuberance 16 having a part-spherical surface and the wall 2 is provided with a circular aperture to receive the member 4. The aperture is prepared with one or two welding grooves 12, 14 and a lip 10 of diameter the same as or slightly smaller than that of the protuberance 16. The protuberance 14 may be integral with or formed on a sleeve welded to the tube 4.
