Abstract

951,740. Rollerways; tongs. MASCHINENFABRIK SACK G.m.b.H. June 19, 1962 [July 21, 1961], No. 23560/62. Headings B8A and B8H. A pair of tongs is used to turn and/or laterally shift bars which are moving over the rollers 17, Fig. 5, of a roll table, the two tong arms 9, 9<SP>1</SP> carrying rollers 10, 10<SP>1</SP> and being operated by respective endless cables 12, 12<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 3). The tongs are carried by a bearer 5, Fig. 1, which is vertically movable by cylinder and piston 6, 7 and which in turn is mounted on a carriage 1 movable on wheels 2, 2c parallel to the rollers 17. Each tong arm 9 or 9<SP>1</SP> has its own drive pulley 11 or 11<SP>1</SP>, both of these being freely mounted on a common shaft 8. To move the two tong arms independently to grip or release a bar, the respective cables 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are each moved by their piston-cylinder drives 15, 15<SP>1</SP>. To move the two arms together for turning the bar over, one of these cylinders is exhausted and the two cables are interconnected by a magnetic coupling 16 between their lower pulleys 13, 13<SP>1</SP>. The piston-cylinder drives 15, 151 may be replaced by means for rotating the pulleys 13 and 13<SP>1</SP>, to the surface of which the cables 12 and 12<SP>1</SP> would be secured. Also, the rectilinear vertical movement of bearer 5 may be replaced by a pivotal movement about a horizontal axis.
