Abstract

951,701. Moulding tubular articles. REXALL OVERSEAS A.G. Sept. 14, 1961 [Sept. 17, 1960], No. 33071/61. Heading B5A. In a method of making thin-walled tubular articles of plastic material a mould 27 is filled with the material by injection and a tube former 39 is then inserted into the mould to force excess material back into an injection cylinder 4. The mould may comprise two shells 27a, 27b opened and closed by fluid-operated pistons 28, 29 carried by an extension 26 of a hollow piston 23. Piston 23 is used to move the mould into engagement with the injection nozzle 3, flow through which is controlled by a fluid-operated rod II extending through the injection piston (Fig. 2, not shown). Piston 23 contains a piston 35 for operating the tubeformer 39. The end 42 of the former 39 pierces the end of the moulded tube at 43. In a modification the tube-former itself is tubular so as to contain a piston-rod which replaces the end 42 of the former 39. Both the injection cylinder and the tube former may have heating and/or cooling means. In a modification the mould 27 consists of a single tubular element.
