Abstract

In an injection moulding machine having an axially reciprocable screw 10 in a barrel 11 for feeding plastics material towards an injection nozzle 13, the material is fed into the barrel at 12 to the rear of the screw and the other end of the screw has an extension 20 slidably sealed in an end closure 23 to the barrel, the extension and barrel being separated by an annular region connected to the nozzle 13. The extension 20 may be a rod or a rod surrounded by a sleeve 22 which is changeable to give annuli of different sizes. A valve collar 25 surrounds a reduced diameter portion of the sleeve 22. The screw 10 is moved axially by one or more hydraulic cylinders 32 and pistons 35, downward movement effecting injection through nozzle 13. The screw 10 is rotated by two motors 36 through gearing 37, (38). The machine is movable on rods (14, 15), Fig. 2 (not shown) towards and away from the mould by means of cylinders (16, 17).
