951,558. Extensometers. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Dec.18, 1962 [Dec.22, 1961], No. 45989/61. Heading G1M. An extensometer comprises levers 2, 4 mounted in a casing 6 on a structural member 12 and an actuator 34 mounted by a block 36 at a different point on the structural member. Differential movement between the mounting points due to strain in the structural member causes actuator 34, 30 to rock lever 2. This motion is transmitted to lever 4 by means of an adjustably mounted cam 40, so that the magnification produced by the levers can be varied. Cam follower 48 transmits movement from cam 40 to lever 4. Lever 4 operates successively microswitches 62, 64, 66 which in turn operate control and warning means. The lost motion between the first switch and lever 4 can be adjusted by a bolt 88 and the individual switches can be adjusted in position by means of slots 94 and clamping screws 96.
