Abstract

950,702. Cleaning pads; scouring pads. L B. (PLASTICS) Ltd. Jan. 9, 1963 [Jan. 11, 1962], No. 1030/62. Headings A4F and A4R. A scouring pad is made by rolling, folding or otherwise compacting a piece of mesh material, placing at least part of the compacted material in a mould containing a plastic medium which penetrates into the mesh material, and then curing the plastic medium to bond the mesh material to it. A tubular mesh sleeve 10 of metal, nylon, propylene, or other material is inserted through a hole 20 in a sponge member 21 of e.g. polyurethane, polyester, or polyether, and rolled up to form an assembly as illustrated in Fig. 4. The assembly is placed on the base of a mould 30, Fig. 5, containing thermosetting resin and clamped thereto by a pressure plate 33 and a spring clip 34 engaging a spigot 32. The mould is then heated to set the resin and form a solid base for the cleaning pad in which the meshes of the sleeve 10 are embedded.
