Abstract

An abrasive product is produced by at least superficially melting a foamed polyurethane material, applying a powdered abrasive to the melted layer and allowing the melted layer to reset. Powdered emery, boron carbide, or abrasive silicates are specified. The product may have a flexible or rigid reinforcing back of fabric, wood, metal or resin. The melting may be effected by passage through heated rollers.ALSO:An abrasive product is produced by at least superficially melting a resiliently yieldable cellular thermoplastic material, such as a polyurethane, applying a powdered abrasive to the melted layer, and allowing the melted layer to reset. Abrasives such as powdered emery, boron carbide, or abrasive silicates are specified. The abrasive product may have a flexible or rigid reinforcing back such as a fabric, or wood, metal or resin. The desired superficial melting may be affected by heated rollers.
