Abstract

949,873. Turbines. TURBINENFABRIK DRESDEN VEB. Nov. 21, 1961, No. 41612/61. Heading FIT. A gas turbine has an internal housing for the guide blades, nozzles, packings and associated components extending outwardly in an axial direction through the walls of an external housing and supported outside the external housing independently of it. The turbine rotor 1 is mounted within internal housing 4 containing guide blades 5 and shaft packings 6. The internal housing 4 projects through the end walls of the external housing 7 and is supported by lugs 8 resting on pedestals 10. Housing 7 is also supported on the pedestals 10. The housings 4, 7 are each in two sections joined in the horizontal centre plane. The rotor main bearing housings 11 may be formed integral with the internal housing 4, may be in the form of pedestals, or may rest separately from the housing 4 on the pedestals 10. Ducts 12, 13 are provided between the housings 4, 7 for the inlet and exhaust gases and are separated by walls 14 which may be movably located in annular grooves 15 in both housings 4, 7 or may be movably located in only one groove 15 and rigidly secured to the opposite groove 15. The end walls 16 of the external housing 7 have radial flanges 17 which engage in annular grooves 18 in the housing 4. The walls 14, 16 may be made of a resilient material to assist sealing or other sealing devices such as rings or air may be used. In a modification the flanges 17 are attached to the internal housing 4 while the grooves 18 are situated in the external housing 7. The annular surfaces 19 are such that contact between the flange 17 and the groove 18 always takes in a horizontal plane almost through the turbine axis.
