Abstract
998,748. Gas turbines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 9, 1963 [Aug. 13, 1962], No. 31565/63. Headings FIG and FIT. A turbine has a split stator casing containing and supporting coaxially therein a continuous annular rotor blade shroud holder with freedom for expansion relative thereto, arcuate shroud segments being supported end to end around the inner periphery of the holder. An axially split gas turbine casing 1, Fig. 1, comprises upper and lower halves 2, 3 surrounding a continuous shroud holder 11 and a bladed rotor disc 8. Holder 11, Fig. 2, is of channel section having limbs 20 engaging an annular flange 13 on casing 1 and is supported concentrically therewith by projections 14, 15, Fig. 1, attached to casing 1 and engaging rollers 19 on the holder. Holder 11 carries shroud segments 12 each of which has corner lips 27 engaging in circumferential grooves 24 in the holder. Radial notches 32, Fig. 4, in holder 11 facilitate assembly of shroud segments 12 and screws 33 prevent circumferential movement. Heat insulating pads 28 are positioned between holder 11 and segments 12. The holder may be cooled by compressor air fed from a manifold 22 and exhausting through a duct 20a. The construction permits radial expansion or contraction of the shroud assembly and thus reduces thermal distortion.
