Abstract

The invention comprises steroids of the general formula: <FORM:0949719/C2/1> wherein R1 represents H, CH3, F or Cl, Z represents H(H) or =CH2, and R3 represents an aliphatic acyl radical containing not more than 6 carbon atoms, and the preparation thereof by reacting a 3-keto -4, 6-diene steroid of the general formula: <FORM:0949719/C2/2> wherein R1, R2 and Z have the above significance, with the required enol acylating agent such as a mixture of the required carboxylic acid anhydride and acid chloride with or without the presence of an organic base, or a mixture of the required carboxylic acid anhydride and an organic base, or isopropenyl acetate. A free 17a -hydroxyl group in the reactant is concurrently esterified with the enol ocylation. Therapeutic compositions having a progestational action on oral application contain as the active ingredient steroids of the first general formula above. They may take the form of pills, tablets, dragees, solutions or emulsions.
