An electric motor or generator comprises a permanent magnet field member N, S, and a belt-shaped armature 16 having printed-circuit winding conductors coated on to a thin flexible insulating sheet and to which current is supplied or collected by brushes 26, 27. The current may be either alternating or direct, and the belt may be continuous, being guided over two drums 22, 23 which may be sprocketed to engage belt perforations at metallic reinforced strips. The belt either reciprocates or moves continuously, and the winding may be either lap or wave wound. Specifications 874,394, 925,833, 935,652 and 949,377 are referred to.
