Abstract
The linear electro-magnetic coupler consists of a two part inductor, the space between the two parts containing a rotor run from a motor. The rotor is in the form of an endless belt based on some flexible synthetic material on which are laid plates of some low electrical resistivity material. Alternatively the belt may be in the form of several thin laminations overlaid by a good conductor or as a flat link chain where the link rods provide the conductors. Attraction forces are compensated for by an arrangement of two spaced guides. The inductor is partly in the form of an inverted 'U' or is 'C' shaped and may be a permanent magnet.
