Abstract
949,183. Electric radiators. HERAEUS QUARZSCHMEIZE G.m.b.H. May 26, 1960 [June 3, 1959; Aug. 17, 1959; Sept. 12, 1959], No. 18657/60. Heading H5H. In a heat radiator, for heating rooms, drying or other industrial purposes, having a reflector 4 and a radiation source consisting of an electrically heated wire 3 enclosed in a tube I of quartz glass or ceramic material, one end of the material of the tube itself is closed or substantially closed and the current return path is provided by a straight wire 9 passing through a tubular aperture in a highly refractory support 2 for the heated wire 3. The tube 1 may be substantially closed by melting, leaving a capillary aperture of a few tenths of a millimetre at its end. The radiation source and reflector 4, which may be elliptical or parabolic with the source mounted at a focus, are mounted in end caps 6 of ceramic, e.g. steatite or porcelain, which are rotatable in clamps 17. Sheet metal screens 5 and 12, the latter being of aluminium are provided. Sealing rings 7 and 14 prevent entry of moisture, ring 7 being of silicone or silicone rubber. The lead 10 to the wire 3 is insulated and spaced by quartz wool 11. An earth wire 15 from the supply cable 13 is connected to the reflector 4 by a screw 16. A connecting blade 8 may be replaced by a pull switch with a pull cord passing through a bellows of silicone rubber or vulcanized rubber. In Fig. 6 a metal foil earth connection 31 joined to the reflector by a lead 15 is surrounded by a flexible tube 32 of silicone rubber or P.V.C. which is glued or cemented to the supply cable 13. A flange 33 on the tube 32 bears against a pressure ring 35 of metal, rubber or hard plastic.
