Abstract

A control mechanism for hydraulic apparatus, such as a hoist, has a spring-loaded valve 12 interposed between a supply line 28 and a line 29 leading to the apparatus and a valve 18 coaxial with the valve 12 and interposed between the supply line 28 and a return line 30. When liquid enters a chamber 13 from the line 28 it opens the valve 12 to supply the apparatus until operation of a hand wheel 24 and a screwed spindle 21a opens the valve 18 to connect the chamber B to the return line 30 when the valve 12 again closes to trap the liquid supplied to the apparatus. Further actuation of the spindle 21a causes the valve 18 to engage and open the valve 12 so that liquid can flow from the apparatus into the return line 30. The valve 18 is provided with fluid-conducting passages 20a and the valve 12 with axial grooves 15 and a helical groove 15a. A sleeve 16 separates a pair of bushings 13, 17 in which the valves are slidably mounted.
