Abstract
948,822. Linkages for resilient mountings. MICROCELL Ltd. Sept. 15, 1961 [June 16, 1960], No. 21252/60. Heading F2S. An assemblage for applying two-way forces to a resilient compressible or tensionable unit, e.g. a single-acting hydraulic piston and cylinder unit 10 as shown, or a compression spring, or a resilient block, comprises a first force applying member 23 which when moved to the right engages a composite element consisting of two blocks 17, 19 interconnected by resilient means 20, 21 and a piston-rod 11 and applies a force through it to a first part of the resilient unit, e.g. the piston, and which when moved in the opposite direction applies a force to a second element, e.g. an extension sleeve 13 of the cylinder, and through it to another part of the resilient unit spaced from the first part, e.g. the cylinder, a second force applying member 28, 30 engaging the other part of the resilient unit and being connected through lost motion mechanism to the first element 17, 19, 20, 11. The member 23 has a head 24 which is slidable within the extension sleeve 13 to co-operate, when the assemblage is contracting, with the block 19 which carries a transverse pin 37 having its ends located in corresponding longitudinal slots 9, 36 formed respectively in the extension sleeve 13 and the outer sleeve 28 of the second force applying member, the head 24 having a shoulder 25 which, on retraction of the assemblage, abuts an internal shoulder 15 on a guide 14 of reduced bore at the corresponding end of the extension sleeve 13 for slidingly accommodating the member 23. The resilient means 20, 21 which transfers force from the block 19 to the block 20 comprises a compression spring 20 and a strut 21 which co-operates, in the manner of a dashpot, with a recess 22 in the block 17, the latter being slidingly received within the sleeve 13 to coact with the free end of the piston-rod 11. The second force applying member has an eye 32 carried by a plug 29 which threadedly engages the corresponding end of the outer sleeve 28. The arrangement may be such that only tensile forces are applied to the yielding body.
