Abstract
1,107,252. Master cylinder. GIRLING Ltd. 17 Sept., 1964 [10 Oct., 1963], No. 39974/63. Addition to ;977,268. Heading F2F. The tandem master cylinder of the parent Specification is provided with springs between the pistons and between the secondary pistons and an adjacent cylinder end which are arranged so that when the pistons .are in their fully retracted positions the spring forces acting on the pistons are wholly contained within the piston sub-assemblies. The compression spring 21, between pistons 11, 12, is located between the outer end of a stem 45 slidable in a recess 47 in the main piston 11; the spring 24 between the secondary piston 12 and the end of the cylinder 10 is located between a valve cage 36 of the axially movable valve and an adjacent end of the secondary piston, the valve being coupled to piston 12 by a stem 37, carrying the valve at one end, the other end having a head alidably retained in a recess 39 in the piston 12. The head 52 on the slidable stem 45 may be secured to piston 12. The head 28 of the tiltable reservoir valve is of rubber and has an annular rib 29 on its upper face which is engagable with the underside of the seating.
