Abstract

1396421 Hydraulic impact absorbers AUGUST BILSTEIN 17 May 1972 23144/72 Addition to 1375751 Heading F2S An hydraulic impact absorber comprises two telescopically movable tubes containing damping liquid, and a resilient sleeve encircling and second to the tubes so as to receive the liquid expelled from them through ports on compression, the sleeve being able to restore itself resiliently at the end of a compression stroke. The length F of the sliding and mutually guiding overlapping surfaces of the two tubes in the rest position of the absorber is required to be at least as great as the diameter D of the overlapping surfaces, and this diameter must be less than the maximum stroke length H. On compression of the absorber the sleeve takes up the position shown in Fig. 1C. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) the axially spaced ports 18 are replaced by circumferentially spaced ports, and a rod 23 which forms an extension stop is formed with a damping groove (39). The resilient sleeve has a fabric insert. The threads of the fabric insert are preferably arranged concentrically or helically about the axis of the impact absorber, or there are a larger number of threads extending transversely than axially.
