948,366. Vehicle bodies; road vehicle undercarriages. C. I. BOHLEN, C. B. SHEPPARD, and P. J. D'ORAZIO. July 21, 1961, No. 26598/61. Headings B7B and B7D. Two individual semi-trailer units 10 each with its own removable bogie unit 38 may be coupled end-to-end to form a single semitrailer the two bogie units then being placed together at the rear of the combined unit. The lower corners of the two bodies are connected by retractable latch bars 66 (Fig. 11) which engage spring-loaded slider bars 80 operated by a rotatable cam 86. A hand-operated pin 74 enters an aperture in the latch bar 66 to enable the coupling to withstand tensile loads and the notch 73 retains the bar 66 in its retracted position. At the upper corners of the two bodies interengaging grooved members 94, 96 secured to the respective bodies are coupled by the pins of a yoke 106 moved vertically by the operating handle 110 and bar 102. The bogie units 38 carry at each side spring-urged pins 56 operated from the twoarmed crank 52 and the handle 50, the pins extending through box-section side members 42 into apertured angle pieces 24 secured to the base of the body.
