Abstract
948,066. Clocks. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. July 17, 1961 [July 15, 1960], No. 24796/60. Heading G3T. [Also in Division F2] In a spring motor, the spring 10 is connected through shaft 13 to the planetary system 17 of a differential gear, one sun pinion 16 of the differential gear being connected through gearing 18, 12 to a clock, time switch or other mechanism to be driven by the spring, while the other sun pinion 15 is connected through gearing 19, 22 to a winding means, such as a manually operable key or an electric motor. The electric motor may be arranged for continuous or intermittent operation, and an overwind protection device may be provided. A ratchet wheel 20 and a pawl 21 prevent backward rotation of the sun pinion 15. The arrangement permits re-winding of the spring without interruption of its power output. The spring 10 may be of conventional type. Alternatively, it may be of the type shown in which the spring is energized by winding it off an arbor a on to an arbor b. It is stated to be known to re-wind a spring of this tupe by turning the arbor a bodily in a planetary path y about the axis of the arbor b.
