Abstract

947,994. Babies' napkins. H. E. G. ROWLEY. (Federal Industries Ltd.). Oct. 30, 1962, No. 40908/62. Heading A3V. A baby's napkin of isoscelestriangular shape formed from a double thickness of cotton muslin has between the thickness an internal rectangular shaped absorbent pad of cotton gauze or muslin extending centrally from the base to the apex and sewn in position by stitching passing through all the thicknesses of the napkin and pad. A loop is attached to the apex at the outer side through which the corners brought round the waist may be passed and secured. In one embodiment a single thickness of muslin cloth is cut to form shape A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H (Fig. 1). After the folded absorbent pad is placed in the position indicated by rectangle 12, wings B, E, D, C and A, F, G, H are successively folded inwardly so that sides B, C and A, H coincide with side A, B giving the shape shown in Fig. 4. Edge H, G is hemmed and pad 11 is stitched to all thicknesses along line 13. The apex is then turned up with two small folds and secured by stitching passing through all thicknesses (Fig. 5, not shown). The edges B C, A H and A B which are coincident along parts of their length are turned under and hemmed by stitching 17. Stitching 18 secures the second longer edge of the pad. A loop 19 is attached at the apex. Fig. 6 shows the napkin ready for use, the corners of the triangle brought round the waist passing through the loop ready for fastening. The napkin may also be constructed from two separate superimposed triangles or a parallelogram folded about a diagonal.
