1 Claim.

This invention relates to holders, is particularly concerned with absorbent pad holders, is more particularly concerned with holders for absorbent pads adapted for use on children, and is most particularly concerned with a combination shirt and Vabsorbent insert for use in childrens wear. i

There are serious objections to the use ofconventional diapers since they are not. onlycurnbersome of use but because they involve the use of pins for attaching them to other garment inembers, shirts, for example, worn by the child. Another serious objection to the use of conventional diapers resides in the fact that the diaper must be capable of absorbing moisture. Since absorption provision must be had in the diaper,

. the entire diaper is made of highly absorbent material and this adds to the bulkiness of the diaper. The conventional diaper is therefore bulky, is diicult to attach and is obviously uncomfortable in wear. i

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a holder. It is a further object to provide a holder for absorbent pads. It is still a further object to. provide a holder for absorbent inserts. which has provision for ease of attachment. It is a further object of the present invention to provide a combination shirt and absorbent insert holder adapted for wear by children which is of simple construction, is

light in weight and affords comfort in wear.

I have now discovered and invented a combination garmnt and pad for holding a moisture absorbing insert comprising an undershirt, the

said undershirt having a plurality of gripper sockets attached thereto, the said sockets being disposed frontally and substantially near the sides of the said shirt, a rectangular pad, the said pad having a rectangular pocket attached on the inside thereto, the said pocket being sewed along its two wide edges to the said pad, an insert, the said insert comprising a length of absorbent material folded upon itself a plurality of times, the said insert being held within the said pocket, the said insert being substantially equidistant from the outer edges of the said pad, a pair of tapes, each of the said tapes being sewed to the said pad and being at opposite corners from each other, a plurality of gripper studs, a plurality of gripper sockets, each of the said tapes having a pair of the said gripper studs secured thereto, the said studs being disposed on the inside of the said pad, a pair of folded tapes, each of the said folded tapes being sewed to the said pad and being at opposite corners from each other, each of the said folded tapes having three gripper sockets,` the said gripper sockets of the folded tapes being disposed on the outside of the said pad, each of the said folded tapes having a single gripper stud, the said gripper studs being disposed on the inside of the said pad, the said pad being secured to the said shirt by means of the said gripper sockets and gripper studs, and I- am now able to avoid the disadvantages of the prior art and am able readily to accomplish the objects set forth.

While some of the more outstanding features, and advantages of this invention have been hereinbefore indicated, others will become apparent from the following disclosures, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 2 is a section taken along the lines 2--2 of the Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is `a view showing the holder attached, in part, to an undershirt of a child.

As shown in the Fig. l the rectangular pad I has a strip of tape 4 sewed to each of the two corners at one end of the said pad. The two strips of tape which Will hereinafter be referred to as tapesare sewn to the inside of the pad I. The inside of the pad is designated as the side of the pad which in use contacts the body of the child. Each of the tapes 4 have a pair of gripper studs I2, and I5, secured to the tapes and to the pad I. Each of the other two corners of the pad I have a strip of tape 5 sewed to the outside of the pad I. Each of the strips of tape 5, which will be referred to as tapes, have three gripper sockets Il, I3, and III, attached to them. The said gripper sockets are secured to the tapes and to the pad I and the socket portion of the grippers are on the outside of the pad I. Each of the two tapes 5 have a single gripper stud 8 attached to them and to the pad I. The studs are attached to the inside of the pad I. A rectangular strip of cloth is sewed along its two long sides to the pad I and this is designated a pocket 2. The pocket is open at each of its short ends. A moisture absorbent cloth 3 is folded upon itself' several times, and is inserted within the said pocket. It will be noted that the tapes 5 are folded over in a V-shaped manner before being sewn to the Pad I.

The shirt S has a pair of tapes 1 sewed to the outside of the front part of the shirt. Each of the said tapes i has a pair of gripper sockets 9 and IE), attached to the tapes and to the shirt.

In use the shirt 6 is placed on the child so that the strips I are disposed in the front and near the sides of the shirt. The child is laid down (face up) and the pad I is placed beneath the childs body, and the lower edge Ia of the pad is pulled upwardly between the childs legs. Each of the studs 8 are now inserted into one of the sockets on each of the tapes on the shirt. Since each of the tapes 'I has two sockets, 9, the upper socket, and I0, the lower socket, the studs 8 are inserted into either the lower or the upper sockets, depending on the size of the child. The two other corners of the pad I are now folded over the corners nearest to the edge Ia, and the stud I5 is fastened by inserting it into the socket I4, and the stud I2 is fastened by inserting it into the socket I3 or into the socket II. It will be noted that if the stud I2 is fastened into the socket I3 the fit of the pad will be more snug than if the said stud was fastened to the socket II.

When the insert and a portion of the pad is Imade moist, the studs I2, and I5 are unfastened from their respective sockets, the two corners are folded back, the two studs 8 are unfastened vfrom their respective sockets, and the pad is removed from the child. The insert 3 may be removed from the pocket of the pad and be laun-` dered, while another pad and-insert is attached to the same shirt.

I Wish particularly to point out that the pad and theinsert may be changed in a very short time, there is no possibility of causing injury to the child due to the absence of safety pins, and even an inexperienced person is able to make the change. Y

the said shirt, a rectangular pad, the said pad having a rectangular pocket attached on the inside thereto, the said pocket being sewed along its two longitudinal edges to the said pad, a pair of tapes, each of the said tapes being sewed to the said pad and being disposed at the rear corners, two pairs of gripper studs, each of thesaid tapes having a pair of the said gripper studs secured thereto, the said studs being secured to the inside of the said pad, a pair of folded strips of tape, each of the said strips of tape being folded upon itself forming a substantially 67 degree angle, each of the said folded strips of tape being sewn to the said Ypad and being disposed at the front corners, siii-gripper sockets, each of the said folded strips of tape having three of the said gripper sockets, the said gripper sockets of the folded strips of tape being disposed on the outside of the said pad'and being selectively engageable with the said pairs of gripper studs on the rear corners of thel pad respectively, each of the said folded Vstrips of tape having a single gripper studthe said last named gripper studs lbeing disposedl on the inside ofthe said pad, the said studs and the said sock-4 etsbeing secured to the said strips of tape by conventional means, the said pad being securedto the said shirt by means of the `said gripper sockets thereon and the said gripper studs on the folded strips of tape.
