Abstract

Polished and/or matt laminated plastics of large surface area and coated and/or lacquered fibrous material (i.e. hardboard, wood and plywood) of large surface area are provided with an easily removable protective coating by applying (e.g. spraying or casting) thereto a film-forming mixture of polyvinyl chloride and/or copolymers containing polyvinyl chloride, or chlorinated rubber and at least one of the following non-combustible plasticizers, trioctylphosphate, tricresylphosphate, chlorodiphenyl, and chlorinated paraffin, in a volatile solvent and then evaporating the solvent. Non-combustible polymeric plasticizers may be used in the chlorinated rubber compositions. The solvent may be an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, organic ester, ketone or mixture thereof. The process is suitable for protecting sheets, boards, tables and cupboards.
