Abstract

<PICT:0781475/III/1> <PICT:0781475/III/2> A hand tool for spreading adhesive has a serrated edge, and means integral therewith whereby it is secured to a container of adhesive in such a manner that it may be easily removed from and replaced on the container. A container C for adhesive has a cylindrical wall X secured by a rolled joint to a circular base W and a coating-tool T has three ears which clip over the joint and detachably secure the tool to the container. The tool has a serrated edge H which is stroked once or twice over the adhesive deposited on the surface of a board from the container to coat the surface with adhesive. Two ears E have a sloping edge B to guide the tool at an angle to the board. "Formica" (Registered Trade Mark) may be bonded to a surface such as wood or fibre-board by coating each surface with adhesive, then by pressing both coated surfaces together. The adhesive may comprise a mixture of butadiene acrylonitrile copolymer rubber and chlorinated rubber in a volatile organic solvent comprising a mixture of toluol and methyl ethyl ketone.
