Abstract
<PICT:0947512/C3/1> Apparatus for dipping articles suspended on a carrier into a bath with a breachable layer on its surface, e.g. flux or tin having a surfacelayer of scum, includes means for moving the article and at least part of its carrier forwardly along the bath and downwards and upwards through the surface layer and for moving the carrier and article backwards while the article is immersed, so that thereafter it is lifted out of the bath through an opening in the surface layer which has been caused by previous movement of the object or carrier. The apparatus may be combined with a conveyer for carrying the articles through a series of baths. The required movement may be obtained by suspending the articles 7, through a carrier 6 and brackets 5, from the pivot 4 of an arm 3, which is radial to a wheel 1, the wheel rolling along a track 10 above the surface L of the bath. The wheel 1 may be toothed, and the track 10 may comprise rack portions, catches or friction washers being provided to maintain the position of the arm 3 when rotation is not required, as when moving between baths, or through washing baths.
