872,347. Cleaning metals. DEINERT, A., and GEBAUER, K., [trading as DEINERT & CO.]. Nov. 18, 1959 [May 15, 1959], No. 39125/59. Class 82(2) Apparatus for the surface treatment of metal objects comprises a rotary cage with vertical rails, articles suspended from arms attached to carriages running on said rails being successively dipped into a series of liquid containers surrounding the cage in a ring, the carriages being raised and lowered by a central device, and, for the selective exclusion of immersion in one or more containers, the carriages are deposited on rails mounted on a frame within the rotary cage. As shown, objects 4 are supported by arms 11 on carriages 9 which run on vertical rails 7 of cage 6, the carriages being raised and lowered by the engagement of lifting plate 10 with wheels 12. The cage can rotate upon ball bearings 8. When in the raised position the carriages can be supported by wheels 18 upon rail 17, which, in common with the lifting plate 10, is not completely circular so that the carriages may be able to dwell in the raised or lowered position for a predetermined number of rotational movements of the cage. In alternative embodiments (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown), the selective engagement of wheels 18 with rail 17 may be by means of solenoid controlled spring loaded rail points which may be selectively located inside or outside the path of the wheels 18, or these wheels 18 may be attached to a shaft and axially movable on to the rail 17 when in the raised position.
