To allow of the taking up of slack of the endless cutter chain 35 of a mineral-mining machine the loop frame 30 for the cutter chain is secured to a base structure 23, 27 on which the body 10, 11, 12 containing the drive motor and transmission to the cutter chain drive sproket 13 mounted on the body can be laterally displaced. One end of the body may be pivotally secured to the base whilst the other end of the body can be traversed across the base by rams 40, 41 acting between the body and the base. Alternately rams can act between the base and the body at both ends of the body to cause lateral traversing of the body over the base.
