947,020. Spinning viscose. GLANZSTOFFCOURTAULDS G.m.b.H. June 7, 1962 [June 14, 1961], No. 22105/62. Addition to 905,149. Heading B5B. [Also in Division C3] In the manufacture of threads, filaments and films of regenerated cellulose by spinning viscose, an #-aminoalkyl ether of a polyalkylene glycol is added to the viscose and/or the coagulating bath (see the parent Specification). The #-aminoalkyl ethers have the formulae HO (C n H 2n O) x RNH 2 or H 2 NRO(C n H 2n ) x R<SP>1</SP>NH 2 in which R and R<SP>1</SP>, same or different, are alkylene or substituted alkylene chains, and x is 10 to 60. Preferably, R and R<SP>1</SP> contain 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and preferably, n is 2 or 3. The polyalkylene glycols may be e.g. polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol or a polyethylene polypropylene glycol. Specified compounds are the mono-#-aminopropyl ethers or the di-γ- aminopropyl ether of a polyethylene oxide wax, the di-γ-amino-#-hydroxy-propyl ether of polyethylene glycol, and the mono-#-aminoethyl ether of an addition compound of ethylene oxide with a polypropylene glycol. The compounds may be prepared by treating the polyalkylene glycol either with 1 or 2 moles of acrylonitrile, followed by hydrogenation, or by treatment with ethyleneimine. The compounds are preferably present to an extent of 0.01 to 0.5% by weight based on the viscose or the coagulating bath, as appropriate, as in the parent Specification. In an example, viscose containing 0.2% by weight of the hydrogenated reaction product of 1 mole polyethylene oxide wax (mol. wt. 8630) and 1 mole acrylonitrile is ripened at 14‹ C. for 42 hours, and spun through a multi-hole spinneret containing 70 g/1. H 2 SO 4 , 130 g/1. Na 2 SO 4 and 90 g/1. Z n SO 4 at 50‹ C. The filaments are stretched 100% in a second bath at 90 ‹ C. containing 2% H 2 SO 4 , washed, deacidified and stretched a further 10%. The filaments are characterised by a strongly developed shell with smooth periphery and a small or negligible core.
