[Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A check valve for flowing media, e.g. disposed in the thrust tube of a watercraft jet propulsion apparatus (see Division B7), comprises a hub 121 which is freely rotatable on a shaft 122 and which carries blades 119 pivotally mounted on shafts 120. Water entering the thrust tube 2 causes the blades to pivot to the position shown in Fig. 10 and allow the water to pass through the valve, at the same time causing it to rotate. The water is prevented from flowing back, on a pressure buildup behind the valve, by the blades pivoting back to form an annular disc against the supporting edge 25. The front edges of the blades 119 may be sharpened to cut up any foreign matter which enters the thrust tube. The valve may also be used in conduits and pumps for liquids, vapours or gases and in mining ventilation apparatus.
